  • Eric Adams, NYC Mayor elect, supports NYCCoins.
  • Adams promises to receive his three first paychecks from Bitcoin.
  • Adams supports Crypto Education at Local Schools

New York City is set to receive its native cryptocurrency, as Eric Adams (Mayor-elect) approves the community-led proposal. NYCcoin will be mined starting November 10, around 3:00 ET.

CityCoins assumed the responsibility of creating the token. This is the company that worked previously with Miami to launch its coin. According to them, “this project adopts the Stacks Protocol built atop the blockchain to enable smart contracts and issue its coins.”

Adams is also an avid crypto-enthusiast and expressed his wish to have a CityCoin in NYC on November 4. This is also after he commended Miami’s efforts in launching the MiamiCoin. After five days CityCoin finally announced that the NYCCoin mining would begin this week.

Adams responded by tweet with an open invitation

Eric Adams was elected the next NYC mayor in November 2. He will officially take office beginning January 2022. Adams shocked the crypto world when, shortly after his victory, he was added to the growing list of politicians who will accept Bitcoin (BTC) as their pay.

In an interview with CNN, Adam also openly supported the inclusion of crypto education in the school curriculum. Adam shared these words:

Schools must be open to teaching technology in order to encourage this type of thinking.

Miami has already taken a step forward, as the city commissioners voted to receive funds from Miami Coin. CityCoins has revealed that it still needs to partner with NY, despite Adams’ approval via social media.

NYC will receive a 30% reserve wallet containing all NYCCoin mining reward rewards, if the partnership succeeds. The City can use these resources for whatever program it chooses.
