WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – Former President Donald Trump endorsed a Republican candidate for Representative Peter Meijer of Michigan. Meijer was among the 10 House of Representatives Republicans who voted to impeach Trump in January.
Trump declared in a statement, that he supported John Gibbs over Meijer, who is a software engineer.
Trump now endorses six Republican challengers, who joined Democrats’ efforts to remove him from office. He was accused of inciting the mob to attack the Capitol Jan. 6, and attempted to reverse Trump’s electoral defeat to Joe Biden.
Representative Anthony Gonzalez, Ohio has already apologized to his race.
Meijer is a freshman Congressman hailing from Grand Rapids in Michigan. In January, Meijer stated that while he was voting to impeach Trump, it was with a heavy soul. However, Meijer also said that Trump “responsible for inciting violence.”
While Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in his home, the Senate exonerated him.
