KAMPALA (Reuters). Two explosions occurred in Kampala, Uganda’s capital. The blasts killed at least two persons and set fire to several vehicles on Tuesday. Local television reports.

NTV Uganda stated that scores of people had been hurt and two explosions had occurred, one in close proximity to Parliament and the other near the central Police Station. According to NTV Uganda, Parliament is being evacuated.

NTV Uganda’s reporter claimed that he witnessed two bodies. However, it was unclear what the cause of these blasts might have been.

Red Cross workers were the first to respond, using fire extinguishers in order to put out the flames on Parliamentary Avenue,” said the station on Twitter (NYSE :).

Brigadier Flavia Byekwaso from Uganda, a military spokesperson, said that multiple blasts had occurred and there were many casualties, although he refused to provide further details.

Irene Nakasiita was the spokesperson for the Uganda Red Cross. She said they would provide more information later. Requests for comment were not answered by the spokesperson of Uganda’s police.

Ugandan soldiers fighting al Qaeda linked al Shabaab militants in Somalia are part of an African Union peacekeeping force. Al Shabaab is responsible for several bombings that killed many people in Uganda.

Islamic State first claimed the responsibility for an explosion in Uganda last month. The bomb, which was packed with shrapnel, killed a waitress in a restaurant.

Ugandan police also reported last month that a suicide bomber had attacked a bus and killed himself, injuring many others.
