Backed by Edge & Node, the Graph Is Building Indexing Infrastructure for Web 3.0

Web 3.0 is the new version of the internet. Plans are underway to finish Web 2.0. This will bring about the change from a central web internet to one that is decentralized, but it also requires great collaboration from all developers and end-users.

Pranav says the Graph protocol is a tool that allows every decentralized app (dApp) to efficiently index and manage their data.

The Graph Protocol, in other words creates an infrastructure similar to Google (NASDAQ): to enable dApps to be indexed on the Blockchain network decentralised.

“You can say what Google does to the Web 2 world, which is a centralized world, as the Graph does to the Web 3 world,”
Pranav said.

What is Google’s comparison to the Graph protocol According to Pranav, Google, a centralized company, indexes hosted application’s data in a single cloud storage facility. It is nearly impossible to index every dApp’s data due to decentralized apps, which are built on blockchain.

“When we come from the Web 2 world to the Web 3 world, where essentially everything is decentralized, you need to index everything. It is necessary to index everything in the blockchain. This also applies to everything that you get outside of the blockchain.

However, achieving this is only possible when you make use of a decentralized Web 3 stack, which is exactly what the Graph protocol is all about,”
Pranav explained.

Pranav further explained that in order to extract data from different storage blocks on a blockchain system, an end-user will either have to “transverse everything” or make use of the Graph protocol to do the extraction.

The Graph protocol listens and stores data from multiple blockchains. It then transmits the decentralized version to its proprietary GraphQL. This is accessible via an OpenAPI which can then be used to serve various dApps.

The Graph Protocol is essentially a platform that will allow other projects to grow on top. The Graph Protocol indexing solution can be used to leverage other projects such as NFT solutions and marketplaces.

“The Graph Protocol Is Essential for Web 3”

Pranav believes that the Graph Protocol forms an important part of Web 3’s infrastructure. The protocol can be used by any application that uses decentralized protocols to store and analyze the information provided on-chain by the users.

This means that developers can access all the information they need to create a Blockchain initiative.

Pranav referred to a scenario in which a DeFi developer builds a DeFi app as an example of how the Graph Protocol can be used.

An analytics page must be available to display all on-chain analytics and on-chain activity that the user is performing in order to make a DeFi application. A protocol such as Graph is needed to achieve this.

“If you have an NFT marketplace for instance, you need to use The Graph to actually monitor or see whatever on-chain NFT transaction as well as other activities that are happening. Also, you need the Graph Protocol if you are having a Metaverse like Decentraland, as it can be used to facilitate trade and see all the on-chain data and put them to the user,”
Pranav noted.

Indexing non-EVM chains is what the Graph does

Due to the rapid growth in blockchain technology, the Graph Protocol’s primary purpose is to make it easier for people to query and index data. This is also to say that the protocol’s end goal is to have every decentralized application that exists, or which uses a centralized indexer, use the Graph protocol on the Graph network.

The Graph protocol plans to expand its indexing capabilities beyond the Virtual Machine-compatible blockchain networks. It is important that the protocol optimizes its indexing processes to support the Matic (which supports a faster block time).

The long-term goal is for the Graph protocol to eventually become the Google blockchain.
