(Reuters) – Disney Walt Disney Co. has put on hold its COVID-19 vaccine mandate at World near Orlando (Florida), local TV station Fox 35 reported.

This is in response to the Biden administration’s COVID-19 workplace vaccine rule. It requires that businesses employing at least 100 people have their employees vaccinated or tested every week and use a face cover at work.

When asked about Fox 35’s report that cited the cast member of the resort complex, a Disney spokesperson replied by email that “we believe our approach to compulsory vaccines has been correct as we have continued on safety and well being of our Cast members and Guests. At this point, over 90% of Florida-based Cast members have verified they have been fully vaccinated.”

Walt Disney Co. Executives United Parcel Service Inc (NYSE) met with White House officials last week to discuss President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 mandatory vaccine plan for private-sector workers. This was amid fears that it would worsen the supply-chain problems and increase labor shortages.

The United States is also highly sceptical about vaccine mandates. They are being supported by those who believe they will end the almost two-year-old coronavirus epidemic. Opponents argue that they would violate the U.S. Constitution, and restrict individual liberty.

Biden made the September requirement and told Americans, “our patience with those who refuse to be inoculated is wearing thin”.

Walt Disney Co. had mandated vaccination for its employees on site, salaried or non-union hours, on July 30, as the Delta COVID-19 strain of highly infectious Delta COVID-19 led to a rise in cases.
