PARIS (Reuters) – Louis Vuitton will present the latest collection by Virgil Abloh at a Miami catwalk on Tuesday. This event is being transformed into a memorial to the designer, who died suddenly Sunday.

In a post on Instagram, Louis Vuitton stated that “In loving memories of Virgil Abloh”, the brand presented the Spring-Summer 2022 Collection.

Abloh, 41 years old, passed away on Sunday, after he had been privately fighting a rare form cancer. This took the fashion world by surprise, as well as those close to him.

Anders Christian Madsen from British Vogue, a fashion critic for British Vogue said: “On Saturday night, @virgilabloh & I wrote our final words for his #louisvuitton Show in Miami.”

He said, “He never stopped and neither did those around him,” adding that Sunday was booked for his “inevitable flow of ideas”, noting that he always sends me show notes for our 90-page LV show notes one day prior to showtime.

American-born Abloh was born to Ghanaian immigrant parents. His studies in architecture led him to the top of fashion’s Black designers. It is this position that symbolises the rise of streetwear into the luxury realm.

Famously, Off-White’s fashion shows attracted huge crowds. Abloh had a reputation for inviting other industry professionals, mixing skateboarders with musicians and designers to give catwalk presentations.

His Instagram account post, which announced his death on the following day, stated that “everything I do for the 17 year-old me”

Louis Vuitton chairman Michael Burke said, in a statement: “As an devoted supporter his community through their charities and passions. He was an eternal optimist that believed anything is possible.”
