MOSCOW, Reuters – On Monday, a Moscow court fined Alphabet Inc. (3 million roubles) for not deleting illegal content. It was part of broader dispute between Russia, the U.S. and Google.
Russia threatened to penalize Google with a portion of its Russian annual turnover in October for failing to remove banned content from its search engine.
Google last month stated that it had received more than 32,000,000 roubles in fines. However, they did not respond immediately to our request for comment.
Russia issued small penalties to U.S. technology companies in this year’s Russian sanctions. Roskomnadzor, the state communications regulator has slowed Twitter’s (NYSE:) speed since March. Reuters has been informed that it won’t lift restrictions on mobile devices until any illegal content has been removed.
