ECB to continue bond buying throughout 2022

FRANKFURT, (Reuters) – The European Central Bank will likely continue buying bonds into next year in order to support the bloc’s economic growth but it is not clear if 2023 will be, Luis de Guindos, Vice President of the ECB told French newspaper Les Echos Tuesday.

These comments suggest that there will be no interest rate hike next year, as the ECB policy guidance states that an increase in interest rates would not occur “shortly” after quantitative easing is over.

“I’m confident that those net purchases will continue throughout next year. Beyond that, I don’t know,” de Guindos said.
