Draftkings Marketplace Introduces The Gamified NFT Collection for the NFL

DraftKings has joined forces with the National Football League Players Association to provide gamified NFTs for National Football League players. The NFLPA announced the debut of a gamified nonfungible token, or NFT, collection on DraftKings Marketplace during the 2022–2023 NFL season, in conjunction with sports betting operator DraftKings Inc. NFT-based games can be played by fans featuring favorite NFL players, starting next year.

OneTeam, an official media partner of the NFLPA, helped DraftKings to reach the agreement. They were granted the necessary license rights for the use of active NFL players names, images and likeness. Beth Beiriger is the senior vice president for product operations at DraftKings Marketplace. She said that this was “the future” of fandom in a statement posted on their website. DraftKings is the only organization that can capitalize on this growing intersection of sports and NFTs, which will become the cornerstones for engagement and entertainment in Web 3.0.

DraftKings Marketplace’s first Tom Brady NFT Collection was launched in August. The marketplace collaborated with Autograph NFT platform, which Brady founded. Brady gave one bitcoin to his fan in support of cryptocurrency for passing his 600th touchdown. The statement states that customers can now buy, sell and use items on the Polygon network to play against each other.

Sean C. Sansiveri (general attorney, head of commercial affairs, NFL Players Inc.), the NFLPA’s licensing and marketing arm, stated that DraftKings NFT experiences are designed to create “true connections for passionate fans.” Recently, the NFL announced a partnership agreement with Ticketmaster in order to connect NFT items to game tickets, highlighting how widespread blockchain technology has been used by professional sports leagues.
