Japanese billionaire Maezawa blasts off to International Space Station -Breaking

BAIKONUR in Kazakhstan (Reuters – Yusaku Makawa, a Japanese billionaire flew his first space flight on Wednesday to the International Space Station (ISS). This is a trip he views as a warm-up for his 2023 mission around the moon in SpaceX with Elon Musk.

Russian Soyuz, a spacecraft with the Russian fashion magnate/art collector of 46 years, was launched successfully from Baikonur in Kazakhstan. It will be reaching the ISS within six hours according to Roscosmos.

Maezawa’s 12-day space journey will see him accompanied by Yozo Hirano (his assistant) who will also document his journey as well Russian cosmonaut Alexander Misurkin.

Maezawa was the first Japanese tourist who visited the ISS. He will also be the SpaceX’s first private passenger. Blue Origin, a commercial firm, and Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin are bringing a new era of luxury space travel to wealthy clients.

Maezawa is currently looking for 8 people to go with him to 2023 on the moon. Applicants must pass medical exams and interview.
