REUTERS/Phil Noble/Pool(Reuters) – India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Twitter handle (NYSE:), was “very briefly compromised,” said the Prime Minister’s Office in a Tweet early Sunday morning.
Twitter was notified and @narendramodi, the prime minister’s Twitter handle, was immediately taken into custody. PMO India tweeted that any tweets shared in the short period of compromise must be ignored.
Modi has more than 73 million Twitter followers. It wasn’t immediately clear how long it had been compromised.
Twitter immediately took steps to protect the compromised account after becoming aware of it, a Twitter spokesperson stated in an emailed statement sent to Reuters. He also added that an investigation had not revealed any signs of other impacted accounts.
Similar incidents were also reported on Modi’s Twitter account @narendramodi_in, in September 2020. A series of tweets asked followers to contribute to a cryptocurrency relief fund.
