WILMINGTON, Del. (Reuters) – U.S. President Joe Biden said Saturday that he made clear to Russian President Vladimir Putin the “terrible price” of an invasion of Ukraine. He also warned him about devastating economic implications.

Biden stated to reporters that the U.S. could send ground combat troops into Ukraine in case of an invasion by Russia, but the United States would need to provide additional forces for NATO’s eastern flank countries in order to strengthen their defenses.

Putin stated that “I made it very clear to him… that any action he takes on Ukraine will have devastating economic and devastating consequences.”

Biden talked with Putin over the telephone last week for 2 hours. He stated clearly to Putin that Russia would lose its global standing “significantly” if there is an invasion of Ukraine.
