LONDON — Checkout.com, a $15 billion payments start-up based in Britain, has hired MetaMeron Colbeci was appointed chief product officer.
Colbeci joined Meta (formerly Facebook) in 2018 to become director of Product Management. This was to assist with the development of its Novi cryptocurrency wallet as well as other payment initiatives.
Most recently, he was Novi’s chief of consumer products management. He worked closely with David Marcus, the division’s former chief. Marcus announced his decision to quitLast month, Meta launched its blockchain unit.
Colbeci said via email that David is an “icon and a visionary in financial services.” He added, “I learned much from him during our time together” and “I was attracted by what Checkout.com had for me and the company’s vision of the future payments.”
Meta made the announcement about Colbeci’s exit last week, and he joined Checkout.com as an employee this week. Novi was Novi’s customer, and Colbeci told him that he discovered Checkout.com.
Colbeci stated that he was impressed by Checkout.com’s emphasis on customer-first technology, which helps democratize the access to digital economies.
Colbeci will join Checkout.com initially from the San Francisco Bay Area office, California. However, he intends to move somewhere else in Europe in the following year.
