(Reuters) – A ransom was offered to free a group American and Canadian missionaries held hostage in Haiti. The U.S-based Christian ministry group that organized the trip said Monday.

“Other people sought to assist us by providing funds to pay ransoms and permit the negotiations to continue. As you can see, we cannot say more about these negotiations,” said a spokesperson for Ohio’s Christian Aid Ministries during a press conference.
