WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The U.S. medical advisor Anthony Fauci stated Tuesday that the U.S. authorities were considering lowering the recommended 10-day quarantine for Americans with COVID-19. This is the Omicron variant tear in the nation.

Public health officials are concerned about a spike in COVID-19 infections. They fear an epidemic of infection due to social mingling during the New Year and Christmas holidays. According to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Omicron accounts for 73% U.S. coronavirus infection cases.

There are more breakthrough infections among fully vaccinated patients than ever before, even those who have received the third booster shot. Omicron may be causing milder symptoms for those with Omicron, although some people have no symptoms.

Fauci stated to CNN that reducing the CDC’s recommendation for a 10-day quarantine would allow symptomatic individuals to return home from school or work, provided they take the necessary precautions.

Fauci, the director of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases said that “that’s certainly an important consideration”

He said that the measure was being looked at in particular for the healthcare worker context, since the COVID case numbers are increasing and so is the demand for qualified healthcare staff.

Fauci advised that those with no symptoms should wear an N95 mask. “Ensure they have the appropriate PPE, and they may be able get back to work sooner rather than waiting for the entire quarantine period.”

Omicron is easily transmitted, so it’s important to pay attention to hospitalizations and not general infections.

He said, “If you want to really see the impact on society it is much more important to examine who gets sick, and who does not, who needs hospitalization or who doesn’t.”

If you only count infections, it is possible to make a false representation of what really happens.
