BEIJING/HONG KONG – Chinese regulators have suspended an information-sharing agreement with China on Wednesday. Alibaba (NYSE) Cloud Computing was a subsidiary e-commerce giant Alibaba Group. According to state-backed media reports, it is accused of not reporting and addressing a cybersecurity vulnerability quickly.

Alibaba Cloud failed to immediately report security vulnerabilities in Apache’s open-source logging platform (NASDAQ:) Log4j2 (China’s telecommunications regulator), according to 21st Century Business Herald. This is citing a Ministry of Industry and Information Technology(MIIT) notice.

MIIT responded and suspended the cooperative partnership between the cloud unit and MIIT regarding cybersecurity threats to information-sharing platforms. This notice indicated that it would be reassessed within six months and then revived depending upon internal reforms.

Beijing has taken the latest step to tighten its grip on online data and infrastructure. Chinese authorities have asked companies owned by state to move their data, which was previously held by private firms like Tencent and Alibaba, to a cloud-based system that is state-backed.

China’s concerns about a vulnerability have triggered panic in governments and corporations around the globe. Apache Log4j2 features a Java-based tool, which is used widely in enterprise systems as well as web applications.

“This vulnerability may lead to remote control of equipment, which may lead to serious harms such as the theft of sensitive information and interruption of equipment services. In a statement, the regulator of telecom said that it was a “high-risk vulnerability”.

Alibaba Cloud found a vulnerability for remote code execution in Apache Log4j2. According to the statement, it notified the U.S.-based Apache Software Foundation.

MIIT claimed that the third-party report was received by it about the problem, and not Alibaba Cloud.

Alibaba Cloud refused to comment.
