OpenSea locks $2.2M in stolen Bored Apes after NFT Theft

OpenSea (a nonfungible tokens (NFTs) marketplace) has frozen 16 Bored Ape (and Mutant Ape) nonfungible coins (NFTs) following a theft from a New York-based art gallery operator. The total amount of the stolen NFTs was 615ETH (or $2.28 million), and included one Clonex, seven Mutant Ape Yacht Club and eight Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs. Additionally, the NFTs are not available to trade on OpenSea.

Toddkramer.eth, a Twitter account linked to Ross+Kramer Art Gallery, New York, posted a series tweets in which he revealed the 16 NFTs that he had stolen and begged for help from OpenSea. OpenSea ended trading of stolen NFTs despite the fact that the NFT community generally did not support the trader.

Some traders are critical of the lack of decentralization. This is one of the most valuable elements in the crypto industry. “Who could freeze that?” On Twitter, kw.sol said this (NYSE:).

Kramer may not be able to recover the NFTs stolen by him, but his experiences highlight the importance of good operational security for NFT collectors and bitcoin traders (opsec). NFT traders who are familiar with Bored Ape Yacht Club’s collection have experienced similar situations to Kramer. NFT collector bergpay.eth claimed that he had also been robbed of 5 Jungle Freaks, 2 Sandbox NFTs, and that his ENS domain was moved to a new address. This is identical to Kramer’s.
