Despite early evidence suggesting that the Omicron COVID-19 variant may be less severe, Anthony Fauci, a leading American infectious disease expert, said there were still risks of an increase in hospitalizations from coronavirus.
Fauci told CNN that “the only trouble is that when there are so many cases, even though the rate of Delta hospitalizations is lower than with Omicron, there is still the possibility that you might have a surge in hospitalizations that could stress the healthcare systems.”
