BERLIN, (Reuters) – Mercedes-Benz informed its owners on Tuesday of a possible technical problem that could set off a fire.

Daimler stated that the problem could have been caused by a leakage of coolant in the pump, which can heat up parts.

Bild published the first report on the story. A copy of a letter Daimler addressed to around 800,000 Mercedes Benz owners with the defect stated that “the danger of a flame could not be ruled.”

Daimler confirmed that this letter was true.

The letter also stated that parts to resolve the issue were not available immediately. A recall would not be possible right now, but it would be initiated as soon as they became available.

The letter stated that the vehicle must be used in the interim with caution and as little use as possible.

Daimler was unable to confirm Bild’s assertion that 800,000.00 vehicles were affected.

The company stated in a statement that owners of vehicles affected by recalls should contact their nearest Mercedes-Benz Service Partner immediately.

Daimler stated that the affected models include certain GLE/GLS (167) platform, C-Class (205) platform, E-Class (213 plate), S-Class (223 plat), S-Class (223 plata), S-Class (223 plate), S-Class (223 platform), S Class (223 platform), S Class (223 platform), S Class (223 platform), E Class Coupe/Convertible (238 platform), GLC (253 platform), CLS (257 platforms) and G-Class (463 platform).
