BRUSSELS, (Reuters) – The European Union has blacklisted 7 more Nicaraguans and 3 additional entities as a response to the November presidential election. Washington and Brussels claimed it was a fraud. This brings the total number of persons under sanctions at 21.

The EU stated in a statement that the targeted individuals are guilty of serious violations of human rights, such as repression, support for fraudulent presidential and legislative elections, and undermine democracy and the rule law.

According to the EU, new travel restrictions and asset freezes have been imposed on the family of President Daniel Ortega, Vice-President Rosario Murillo and police.
