(Reuters) – Facebook’s parent Meta Platforms delayed the U.S. office reopening day and ordered COVID-19 booster shots to employees who return to work. This joins a growing number of businesses that are revamping reopening strategies as Omicron surges.

According to the tech giant, employees that prefer to work remotely have their reopening dates delayed to March 28 instead of the Jan. 31 plan.

Workers returning to the workplace will be required to produce proof that they have received booster jabs. However, the company continues to monitor the Omicron variation situation. Meta requires that all U.S. workers returning to work be immunized against coronavirus.

As the Omicron variant of the Omicron virus drives up infection rates to new highs across the nation, Corporate America doubled its vaccination mandates. They also delayed back-office plans.

This week Citigroup (NYSE) announced that its U.S. employees will not be vaccinated for COVID-19 until Jan. 14, and they will be on unpaid leaves.

Facebook’s parent company, Instagram, WhatsApp, offered employees the chance to delay their return to work by offering a deferred option in December. According to the company, employees can decide by Monday whether to defer returning to work or return to their office.
