NEW YORK (Reuters) – Starbucks Corp (NASDAQ:) It will spend close to double with suppliers and vendors of underrepresented groups in North America between 2030 and $1.5 billion by 2030. This was announced on Tuesday.

Dennis Brockman is Starbucks’ global chief diversity and inclusion officer. He stated that the company thinks it can leverage the COVID-19-related disruption in global supply chains to improve diversity.

He said, “This will allow us to search out and seek for more” Black and indigenous peoples of color, who are creating businesses. This current environment is favorable for smaller companies.

Global coffee company Starbucks said that it would update each year its expenditure progress.

Starbucks and major restaurants, such as McDonald’s Corp. (NYSE:), set new diversity goals in the midst of a national reckoning about race that was initiated by May 2020’s murder by a Minneapolis Police Officer, George Floyd.

Starbucks announced on Tuesday it would spend 15% of its fiscal 2022 media budget to minority-owned media businesses. However, the company refused to disclose a dollar figure.
