U.S. police search for EU official missing from Washington canal path -Breaking

WASHINGTON, Reuters – U.S. Park Police sought out a European Union official on Monday for a fifth time after she vanished from a canal trail area outside Washington, D.C., a spokesperson stated.
Sibylle Zitko (54), a German native, is a long-serving legal advisor in Washington’s office of the EU Delegation. She was last seen on January 6, at 8 AM, according to Park Police Facebook (NASDAQ) post asking for the public’s assistance in finding her.
Zitko, who was last seen in Bethesda in Maryland in a black Volkswagen Sport-Utility vehicle (DE:), with Maryland plates, was last seen leaving her home. She was last seen in the vicinity of Lock 7 along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Tow Path, Cabin John Maryland. Police declined to give any further information about her disappearance.
Washington, a representative of EU said that Zitko was in Washington’s attention and that the Delegation had referred inquiries to U.S. Park Police.
This canal is popular among cyclists and falls under the National Park Service’s jurisdiction. According to a spokesperson for Park Police, there have been no developments in this case since Monday.
Zitko, who has been with the EU Delegation in Washington for over 25 years, provides legal advice regarding trade and competition. Her representation of the European Commission at public hearings regarding U.S. Tariff cases has been a regular part of her work before the U.S. International Trade Commission.
According to a spokesperson for the German Embassy, consular officers were in contact with the police regarding the matter.
