Brazilian startups raised a record $9.4 billion in 2021 -Breaking

© Reuters. SAO PAULO (Reuters – Brazilian startups are expected to raise a record amount of funding in 2021. That’s more than double the number seen last year. According to Distrito, a Wednesday report.
Distrito data shows that there have been 779 rounds of funding in the past year. 46 of these were in December. This totaled $555 million.
Fintechs in the country raised $3.7 billion of investment in 2021. Retail startups received $1.3 billion.
This year, 247 startup companies were acquired or merged with another company.
Ten Brazilian unicorn companies were awarded this year with a value of over $1 billion. The report states that Brazil currently has 21 unicorn-status companies.
