(Reuters) – The Biden administration announced Wednesday a series of steps to accelerate the growth and use of clean energy in the United States power grid. This includes the largest-ever sale by the federal government of offshore wind leases off the coasts of New York City and New Jersey.

As Congress stalls legislation supporting President Joe Biden’s ambitious climate agenda, the announcement seeks to move forward. The announcement aligns with Biden’s promise to adopt an “all of government” approach in fighting global warming, decarbonizing the U.S. electric grid by 2035.

A White House official stated that the administration is continuing to push this agenda in every possible way during a Tuesday briefing with reporters.

The administration revealed seven actions taken by federal agencies to accelerate the deployment of solar and wind projects, while also creating good-paying jobs. This was a key part of Biden’s promise to voters in his campaign for president.

Six commercial leases for six units in New York Bight will be sold next month. This area is located between New York’s Long Island, New Jersey and New York. Administration said that the leases could one day house projects capable of producing as much as 7 gigawatts (enough to power two million homes).

Biden launched an aggressive push last year to increase the ocean industry, which included the approval of the country’s two first commercial-scale projects.

Inshore, the Administration announced measures to reduce time to allow clean energy projects in public lands. This was done through improved coordination between five major agencies as well as the establishment of new offices for renewable energy coordination at the Department of Interior.

The federal government also announced a massive effort to construct thousands of miles worth of transmission lines to transport clean energy from wind and solar facilities to U.S. towns. Building a Better Grid Initiative will receive billions of dollars from $1 trillion in infrastructure funding that was approved in November. This money is used to build new lines or upgrade existing grids.

According to the Administration, it is ensuring that rural communities will reap the benefits from clean energy investments through the new Agriculture Department grant program of $10 million. The Agriculture Department grants support for projects in the poorest areas.
