LOS ANGELES, (Reuters) – Actor Alec Baldwin gave his cell phone to police who are investigating the October shooting at the New Mexico film set for “Rust”. His attorney and a law enforcement official confirmed that the actor had handed his cellphone over.

In December, Baldwin received a search warrant to locate his iPhone. Santa Fe County in New Mexico issued a search warrant for Baldwin’s iPhone earlier this week. It stated that the agency was still trying the obtain the device from actor “30 Rock”.

Juan Rios, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, stated via email Friday that Baldwin’s cell phone was handed over to Suffolk County authorities, New York. They were downloading pertinent data and would send it to Santa Fe investigators.

Baldwin was practicing a scene for the Western Western, “Rust,” when the gun that he held fired a bullet and killed Halyna Houtchins. He claims he didn’t trigger the gun and was devastated.

According to court records, the search warrant allowed investigators to seize Baldwin’s cell phone to inspect text messages, emails, social media communications and any other data stored on it.

Aaron Dyer, an attorney for Baldwin, confirmed the actor had provided his phone to authorities on Friday.

But this is not about Alec’s phone. There are no answers to his phone. Dyer stated in a statement that Alec had done nothing wrong.

He said, “The true question is how the live rounds ended up on the set.”
