On Thursday night, a massive cyberattack urged Ukrainians to “be fearful and expect the worse” and hacked government websites. Some websites were unaccessible Friday morning. This prompted Ukraine to launch an investigation.

The spokesperson from Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry told Reuters that although it is too early to identify who might be responsible for the attack, Russia was involved in previous similar strikes.

As Kyiv and allies raise alarm over a potential new military offensive against Ukraine, cyberattacks have hit the ministry, cabinet, defense and foreign affairs.

Russia denies being behind the cyber attacks against Ukraine.

“Ukrainian! The public network was able to access all your data. It is impossible to retrieve all data from the computer,” stated a message posted on compromised government websites. The message was written in Ukrainian and Russian.

All information concerning you is now public. Be afraid, and prepare for the worst. It is about your present, future and past.

The United States warned Thursday of the high threat of Russian military invasion. Russia claimed that dialogue is continuing, but it was at a dead stop as it attempted to convince the West to block Ukraine joining NATO. It also tried to halt decades of European alliance expansion. These demands were rejected by the United States.

According to Reuters, the spokesperson for the foreign ministry said that although it was too soon to draw any conclusions about the history of Russian attacks on Ukraine in the past.

“All cyber security subjects were made aware that the Russian Federation could make provocations,” a top Ukrainian security officer told Reuters.

These incidents are therefore dealt with as normal.
