WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Thursday’s U.S. Senate hearing will focus on a bill to restrict app stores from companies, such as Alphabet and Apple Inc (NASDAQ) Inc.

U.S. The U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn and Richard Blumenthal stated Monday that the Senate Judiciary Committee will consider the Open App Markets Act, which is supported by a bipartisan group.

Blumenthal is a Democrat and said that the bill aims “to stop Apple and Google crushing competitors and undercutting customers.” It is time to break the grip these two giants have on the multibillion-dollar app market.

Blackburn (a Republican) said that the hearing would “bring us closer to holding tech giants like Apple and Google accountable.”

She stated that tech giants have imposed their app stores upon users, at the expense innovative start-ups.

Apple and Google didn’t immediately respond Monday.

Apple earlier stated that the app store is an “unprecedented engine of economic development and innovation”, which now supports over 2.1 million jobs in all 50 US states.

Google previously stated that Android phones often have two to three app stores preloaded. App sellers are able to allow app downloads even if they don’t use Google Play Store.

They stated that the bill would prohibit large app stores from making payment providers use their app payment system, and they will not be able to punish apps for offering prices or terms through another app store payment system.
