(Reuters) – The Georgia prosecutor of the largest county requested a special grand jury with subpoena powers to assist her investigation into Trump’s attempts to affect 2020 US election results.

Fani Willis, the District Attorney of Fulton County wrote to her chief judge that many witnesses under investigation had refused to cooperate unless they were served with a subpoena.

Willis stated, “Therefore I am hereby asking… for a special purpose grand jury to be inpaneled to investigate the facts and circumstances related directly or indirectly to potential attempts to disrupt lawful administration of 2020 elections within the State of Georgia.”

Willis stated that a special grand jury, which can subpoena witness witnesses, is needed to ensure jurors are not impaneled for extended periods of time and can focus on one probe only.

A request to comment was not received by the Fulton County Superior Court. This court covers most of Atlanta’s state capital.
