(Reuters) –Louie Anderson, a comedian and show-host, was killed on Friday following a lengthy battle with cancer. Anderson was 68 years old.

Glenn Schwartz, the publicist for the entertainment magazine, stated that Baskets’ star died in Las Vegas. The comedian was there to treat diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.

Anderson received three Primetime Emmy Awards, including one for Outstanding Supporting Actor in Comedy Series. He won the 2016 award for his role in Christine Baskets’ comedy series on FX.

Two Daytime Emmys were also awarded to him for his outstanding performance in animated programming for Life with Louie, which aired on Fox from 1997 through 1998.

Saint Paul native, Minnesotan, was previously a counselor for children with special needs. In 1981, he took first place at the Midwest Comedy Competition. Deadline reports that he also won first place.

Anderson was a star in Eddie Murphy’s hit 1988 movie “Coming to America.” From 1999 to 2002, Anderson was the host of “Family Feud” and has appeared in numerous situation comedies during his career.

Anderson wrote several books, including “Good­bye Jumbo … Hello Cruel World,” a self-help book for people struggling with self-esteem issues.
