(Bloomberg). — Davos, the annual gathering of top political leaders, executives, and celebrities, has announced new dates. The event will take place in person, forgoing ski season to allow for a more balmy week, May 22-26.
Due to increasing Covid cases, this year’s World Economic Forum had no choice but to put off the Jan. event. Klaus Schwab, the founder of the World Economic Forum decided that the current situation was so promising that a new date could be set after the Swiss government made Wednesday’s announcement about lifting travel restrictions for people who have been vaccinated or recovered from January 22.
This is a stark contrast to the last year’s meeting, where it was moved from Singapore to begin with, but then had to be cancelled entirely due to insecure planning. Davos Agenda 2022 replaced it, which was a virtual gathering of global leaders and executives. The meeting ended Friday.
Davos residents feel relieved by the possibility of rescheduling. Davos is home to around 11,000 permanent residents. Hotels and apartments are fully booked up months in advance.
Switzerland’s Covid-related hospitalizations have been stable despite the country trailing western European vaccination rates. The country’s hospital capacity is still manageable. This led the government to talk about further relaxations on February 2.
