BERLIN, (Reuters) – Berlin will not allow arms to Ukraine as a result of the conflict with Russia, German Defence Minister Christine Lambrecht stated in an interview on Saturday. She made this statement after Britain had started supplying Kyiv in anti-tank weapons.

A bipartisan group of U.S. senators also promised weapons to Ukraine, which could include missiles, small arms and boats, to help the country defend itself from a potential invasion amid a Russian military build-up https://www.reuters.com/world/top-diplomats-us-russia-meet-geneva-soaring-ukraine-tensions-2022-01-21 on its borders.

Olaf Scholz has, however, stressed Berlin’s policy not to supply lethal weaponry to conflicts zones.

Lambrecht stated that “I understand your desire to support Ukraine” and said so in a weekly interview with Welt am Sonntag.

“Ukraine will get a complete hospital along with necessary training for February for 5.3million euros ($6.01 million).” She noted that Germany has long treated seriously injured Ukrainian soldiers at its military hospitals.

The minister stated that Berlin was not yet ready to provide weapons to Kyiv for now.

We must do all we can to reduce the escalation. Lambrecht explained that while arms delivery would be ineffective in this regard, agreement exists in Germany on the matter.

She agreed with German Foreign Minister Annalena Bock, who stated that Germany will not condemn other countries for being willing to provide weapons to Ukraine.

Baerbock said to Sueddeutsche Zeitung that he didn’t believe it was possible for such deliveries to tip the balance of military power.

The G7, NATO members states and NATO allies are the most powerful weapons. They must make Russia aware that any new aggression will result in massive sanctions.
