TOKYO, Reuters – Japan has begun to draft an economic growth measure that takes climate action into consideration. It aims for a preliminary estimate of the country’s GDP by March 31, economy minister Daishiro Yamagiwa stated Monday.

Yamagiwa was also asked about the so-called Green GDP in Parliament. He said that it is a “commissioned project” and had been working on it since fiscal year 2011. This was in response to global trends and initiatives such as those of the United Nations and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
