Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

The index dropped 1.22% while it fell 0.19%.

These were the best performers of the session American Express Company (NYSE :), rose 8.92% to reach 173.11 at close. International Business Machines, NYSE:), gained 5.65% (or 7.28) to trade at 136.10. Chevron Late trade saw Corp (NYSE 🙂 rise 4.25%, or 5.41 points, to 132.59

Salesforce.com Inc. (NYSE:) was the worst performer of the session, falling 3.43% or 7.64 point to close at 215.39 Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ.:) fell 2.66% (or 7.88 point) to finish at 288.49. Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. (NASDAQ.:) dropped 2.65% (1.39 points) and ended at 50.99.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were American Express Company (NYSE:) which rose 8.92% to 173.11, APA Corporation (NASDAQ:) which was up 8.28% to settle at 33.07 and Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:) which gained 8.12% to close at 36.77.

Nextera Energy Inc (NYSE :), which fell 8.33% to $75.10 in late trading, was the worst performer. Monolithic Power Systems Inc (NASDAQ 🙂 fell 6.75% to 374.87 Paycom Soft (NYSE:) was at its lowest point of 6.70%, closing at 304.44

Sierra Oncology Inc. (NASDAQ) rose 46.3% to 22,68; Aptorum Class A (NASDAQ) was up 38.89% and settled at 2.250. Exela Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ) gained 32.95%.

Integrated Media Technology Ltd. (NASDAQ:), which fell 21.79% at 8.290 in late trading, Yoshitsu Co Ltd. ADR (NASDAQ;) which dropped 16.42% at 3.92, and AgileThought. Inc. (NASDAQ.:) that was down 15.94% at 4.270 at closing.

The New York Stock Exchange saw falling stocks surpass advancing stocks by 1844 to 1405, and 120 ended the same. On the Nasdaq Stock Exchange however, 2304 fell while 1585 advanced. 178 finished unchanged.

Occidental Petroleum Corporation shares rose to 52 week highs. They gained 8.12%, or 2.76 to36.77. Paycom Soft shares (NYSE:), fell to 52 week lows, falling 6.70% (21.85-204.44). Chevron Corp shares (NYSE:), rose to their highest level in three years; an increase of 4.25%, or 5.41 to 132.59. Yoshitsu Co Ltd. ADR (NASDAQ) shares dropped to an all-time low of 16.422%. AgileThought Inc’s shares fell 15.94%, or 0.810-to 4.270 to their lowest level.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 4.21% to 31.16 a new 6-months high.

The February delivery of Gold Futures was up 0.3% or 6.40, to $1848.10 per troy ounce. In commodities trading, crude oil for March delivery rose by 2.20%, or 1.83, to $85.14 per barrel. The April Brent oil contract dropped 0.06%, or 0.05, to trade at $86.86 per barrel.

EUR/USD rose by 0.03%, to 1.1302, and USD/JPY was up by 0.01% at 113.88.

At 95.972, the US Dollar Index Futures rose 0.07%.
