MILAN (Reuters – Barilla is reinventing itself as a leading pasta manufacturer in the world. It now offers a high-end range of pastas that reflects consumer demand for superior quality food.

The family-owned, 145-year-old company launched the pasta in bright red boxes this week. This will make it stand out from Barilla’s old pasta in dark blue boxes. Each box will feature a Barilla logo.

Barilla claimed that this new pasta will soon be sold in Australia as well as eight European countries including Italy. Barilla did not provide any specific sales goals.

This new range of pasta is created by pressing the pasta dough through bronze sieves, which gives it a richer taste and rougher sauce surface.

Barilla will eliminate the plastic window from its blue boxes that contain classic Barilla pasta. This will reduce plastic consumption by approximately 126 tonnes per year.
