STOCKHOLM, (Reuters) – WarnerMedia’s HBO Max streaming services will be available in 15 European countries including Poland, Portugal, and Romania on March 8. It will also be made available in 61 European and American territories.
The service, owned by AT&T Inc (NYSE:), entered Europe in October by launching in the Nordics and Spain, with a host of promotional offers to grab customers from Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:) and Walt Disney (NYSE:) Co’s Disney+.
Johannes Larcher of HBO Max International said that customers who sign up in Eastern Europe and Portugal during the launch sale will not only get a monthly attractive price but also 33% off their regular price for life.
HBO Portugal monthly subscription was $4.99 ($5.59)/month. HBO Max is priced at $5.99. However, existing subscribers or those who signed up in March have to pay only 3.99 €/month.
Contrary to the Spanish and Nordic promotional launches, customers who are already in these new markets will be eligible for a reduced rate of life.
The prices of the Netherlands products were not revealed by the company.
Larcher stated that HBO Max was launched in new markets only in the middle last year. In 2021, almost 8 million additional subscribers were added outside of the U.S.
HBO closed the year with 73.8 millions subscribers to its streaming services and name-brand cable network.
The company plans to open the service later in the year in six other European countries including Turkey and Greece.
A Sky deal means that HBO Max is not available in Britain, Germany, and Italy over the next few years.
The company plans to launch HBO Max worldwide in 190 countries before 2026. However, plans have not been announced for Asia.
Larcher explained that “We are hard at work on preparations for a possible launch in Asia” and said, “It’s fair to anticipate that Southeast Asia would likely be the first country in Asia we would enter with HBO Max.”
