(Reuters] – Whoopi goldberg took responsibility Tuesday for remarks she made during ABC’s “The View”, which caused a furore. CNN reported that both the comedian and actress were placed under two-week suspension.

Goldberg, who is 66, stated Monday during “The View” that it was not about race since it involved white people doing it to other white people.

Goldberg apologized on Monday when she appeared on “The Late Show”, and on Tuesday’s broadcast on “The View.”

Oliver Darcy, a CNN reporter, stated on Twitter (NYSE 🙂 Tuesday evening that Kim Godwin had written to staff that Goldberg would not be suspended in order for her “to reflect on and learn” about the effects of her remarks.

The New York Times reported Godwin’s note.

Goldberg, along with the women hosting “The View,” were talking about the Holocaust following a vote by a Tennessee school board to eliminate the graphic novel “Maus” by Art Spiegelman from the eighth grade language arts curriculum. McMinn County school officials pointed out profanity as well as nudity within the Pulitzer Prize winning work.

Online activists criticized Goldberg’s remarks as dangerous.

“No Whoopi Goldberg, the Holocaust was about the Nazis’ systematic annihilation of the Jewish people – who they deemed to be an inferior race,” Jonathan Greenblatt, chief executive of the Anti-Defamation League, said on Twitter in response to the comments.

“They treated them as if they were human and made racist statements to justify killing 6 million Jews.” Greenblatt declared that Holocaust distortions are dangerous.
