LONDON (Reuters), – Boris Johnson, British Prime Minister, plans to outline next week’s plans for removing self-isolation requirements in COVID-19-infected individuals. His office announced this Saturday.

Britain will be the first European country that allows people with COVID-19 who are aware of their condition to use public transport, shops and work. This is a risky move according to many health experts.

Johnson stated in a statement that “Covid won’t suddenly vanish” and suggested that we must learn to accept this virus, continue our protection without restricting freedoms.

Johnson will give details about how Britain will protect itself against new coronavirus variants by ongoing surveillance. There are reports that Johnson is trying to clarify the situation amid concerns over government plans to eliminate free testing, and cut back on public health studies.

The current law in England requires that people self-isolate at least for five days when instructed by public officials. If they are suffering from COVID-19 or have tested positive, it is recommended to do so even without any specific instructions.

The removal of the COVID-19 self isolation legal requirements would allow for voluntary guidance to be used. This would make the disease more in line with the way Britain treats other infections.

A majority of Britain’s 12-year-olds have received two or more doses. Two thirds have three.

The death rate in Britain of over 160,000 deaths within 28 days after infection is second to Russia’s. This is 6.6% less than the European Union’s average.

Many members of Johnson’s Conservative Party are not happy with COVID-19, as they consider them excessive given the widespread use of vaccines.

The government stated that “Pharmaceutical intervention, including the vaccine programme, will remain our first line defense.” As with any infectious disease like flu, it is important to keep the public informed about health guidelines.
