Avast flags money scams as threat amid Ukraine violence -Breaking

(Reuters) – Cybersecurity company Avast Plc warned Friday of cyber criminals looking to profit from the chaos around Russia’s invasion in Ukraine. They called it a threat.

The company sent a letter to Reuters saying that it had tracked down “a few scammers” who trick people into paying them money pretending to be Ukrainians desperate for financial assistance.

London-listed Donetsk and Luhansk also reported that the company was ceasing to provide services. It described these areas as “newly under embargoed territories.”

Avast stated that they were suspending services to existing users and removing their availability for new users in these two territories.

Avast’s combined revenue from Russia and Ukraine is about 1%.
