Airbnb to offer free housing to 100,000 Ukrainian refugees

Airbnb said MondayThe shelter will be available for refugees fleeing Ukraine to receive temporary accommodation at no cost.

These stays will be funded by Airbnb hosts, donations to Airbnb Refugee Fund and Airbnb.org.

According to AP news, over 500,000 Ukrainians have fled Ukraine since the start of war. According to AP news, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United Nations Monday said that Kyiv is still hopeful for a diplomatic settlement with Russia despite Moscow sending more troops and arms to its frontier.

Brian Chesky (founder, CEO and CEO of Airbnb) stated on Twitter that “We need your help” to reach this goal. Chesky tweeted, “The most pressing need is more people who are able to offer their homes in neighboring countries such as Poland, Germany and Hungary.”

It is part of Airbnb.org’s support for refugees.

According to the company, it will provide housing for short term residents at no cost in September. 40,000 Afghan refugeesThis is more than double the original goal of 20,000, which was announced back in August. According to the company, it had provided housing for 21,300 Afghan refugees by last week.

Airbnb and Airbnb.org have connected 54,000 refugees and asylees from countries around the world — including from Syria, Venezuela and Afghanistan — to temporary housing over the last five years, the company said. Airbnb launched its Refugee Fund in the last year.

Airbnb does not disclose how much it plans to invest in the commitment, nor how long they will house refugees. Airbnb stated that it would provide additional information in the near future about hosts who can help with this effort, including by providing discounted or free stays.
