MOSCOW, (Reuters) – Russian President Vladimir Putin called West an “Empire of Lies” as he discussed economy Monday with top officials following imposition of broad sanctions against Moscow.

Putin said, “(Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin] and I discussed this subject, naturally bearing in mind sanctions that the so called Western community – as I called them in my speech, ’empires of lies’- is trying to put against our country.” A transcript from the meeting quotes Putin.
