Viasat says ‘cyber event’ disrupting satellite internet service

Viasat Monday stated that “a cyber incident” has disrupted the satellite internet service of Ukraine. An ongoing investigation is underway.
“Viasat is experiencing a partial network outage — impacting internet service for fixed broadband customers in Ukraine and elsewhere on our European KA-SAT network,” the California-based company said in a statement to CNBC.
“We are conducting an investigation into the European network and system to determine its root cause. We also take additional precautions within our network to reduce any further impact while trying to restore service to customers affected.”
On February 24, Viasat went down. the day Russia invaded UkraineAccording to Viasat, it did. Viasat stated that it had notified law enforcement officials and other government partners. Viasat said that while the investigation remains ongoing, it did not indicate that any customer data may be involved.
Viasat refused to disclose how many customers were affected by the outage. Viasat’s customers in Ukraine are not yet known.
Premarket trading saw little change in Viasat shares from the previous close at $43.50.
SpaceX claims it will send dishes to Ukraine

Viasat operates large satellites in geosynchronous orbit – meaning they are stationary at a point above the Earth, and placed about 35,000 kilometers above the Earth to maximize each satellites’ coverage area.
It is the conventional method of providing broadband services from space. a number of companies are pouring funds into developing networks in low Earth orbit that utilize hundreds or thousands of satellites – such as SpaceX’s Starlink.

Musk didn’t specify how many terminals SpaceX would need to provide additional support.
SpaceX has successfully launched more than 2,000 Starlink satellites. SpaceX’s services has around 145,000 usersFrom January, the monthly cost for standard service is $99 and premium tiers are $500.
