REUTERS/Alejandro HernandezWASHINGTON (Reuters), – U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai, and Labor Secretary Marty Walsh lauded Tuesday’s Mexican efforts to ensure a fair and safe union vote at Tridonex auto part plant. The two men said that they would continue to pressure Mexico to improve labor rights.
Tai indicated that the U.S. would be monitoring Mexico’s certificate of Monday’s election. The certification came following an agreement reached with Tridonex, in which the U.S. had filed a complaint under a U.S.-Mexico Canada labor enforcement mechanism.
“Workplace democracy is a cornerstone of the USMCA’s labor provisions. People on both sides of the border win when workers can choose their union representation in a free and fair manner – and without delay,” Tai said.
