HANDOUT via REUTERS/The White House WASHINGTON (Reuters] – Americans have increased their approval of President Joe Biden’s response in the wake of the Russian invasion. A Reuters/Ipsos poll on Tuesday showed that 43% said they approved, up from 34%.
Respondents overwhelmingly – 71% – believed that the United States should supply Ukraine weapons in order to counter attacks by Russians on urban areas. This includes six days of attack against its neighbour stalls. A majority of respondents argued that the United States should place additional sanctions against Russia.
The majority (58%) of those surveyed agreed that it was worth paying higher fuel prices to support another democracy. In a survey conducted on February 23-24, 49% of respondents agreed.
Up from 71% one week prior, 75% believed doing nothing about Ukraine would encourage Russia to launch further military actions elsewhere in Europe.
However, 47% of those surveyed disapprove of Biden’s response to the crisis. This is more than 43% of those who approve. Recent weeks have seen Biden’s popularity hover around the low points of his presidency.
Biden will also have an opportunity to connect with Americans Tuesday night when he presents his State of the Union address. Officials from the administration said that Biden plans to make the annual address to emphasize the need to counter Russian President Vladimir Putin as well as push for his domestic economic agenda. This will include reintroducing parts of his Build Back Better program.
This poll was carried out online, as well in English all over the United States. The survey gathered responses of 1,005 adults. It has a credibility interval (a measure of precision) of 3.8 percent.
