WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – Multiple victims were hurt in a fire at a high-rise residential apartment building in Silver Spring. The building also collapsed, according to local authorities.
Heavy smoke was seen pouring out of the four-story building in a video posted by Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service, which said the fire was now “basically contained.” The cause of the fire was still unknown.
Pete Piringer stated that “there are injuries.”
It’s quite severe structural damage. The collapse occurred with the remaining walls of buildings still at danger, he said.
Piringer reported that county emergency responders were dispatched to assist with the multiple-alarm fire in the building seven miles from Washington.
