LONDON (Reuters] – On Tuesday, Volodymyr Zeleskiy, Ukrainian President will address British MPs by videolink to the House of Commons. It is the first time a leader from another country addresses the House of Commons.

Zelenskiy has been in touch with Boris Johnson, the British Prime Minister, on numerous occasions after Russia invaded his country. He has also made several passionate speeches to Western leaders over the past week asking for military and supplies.

At 1700 GMT, he will speak to the chamber. All formal business in parliament will be stopped. With 500 headsets providing simultaneous English and Spanish translations, lawmakers can view the speech from their screens.

Former leaders of the world, including the U.S. Presidents Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton as well as Germany’s Angela Merkel made speeches at other areas of the parliamentary estate along the River Thames.

“Every parliamentarian wants to hear directly from the president, who will be speaking to us live from Ukraine, so this is an important opportunity for the House,” Speaker Lindsay (NYSE:) Hoyle said in a statement.

We are grateful to all of our amazing staff who worked tirelessly to achieve this historical address.

Sky News spoke to Ben Wallace about Britain’s defence minister saying he was expecting the address “incredibly powerful”.

He said, “President Zelenskiy represents the spirit of Ukraine which is young and which has liberal thinking. This is what Russia (Vladimir Putin) just doesn’t get.”

The Ukraine ambassador to London received a standing ovation last week when he visited the chamber to answer questions from Johnson.
