REUTERS/Fabrizio BenschROME, (Reuters) – The conflict in Ukraine has caused international feed and food prices to soar, triggering an upsurge in malnutrition around the globe, U.N. agency for food said Friday.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization, (FAO), it is not known if Ukraine will be able harvest crops in prolonged conflicts. This uncertainty includes Russian food exports.
FAO stated that Russia is the largest global exporter of wheat while Ukraine came in fifth. They together supply 19% of world’s wheat supplies, 14% each of barley and 4% each of maize. This makes them more than one third of all global cereal exports.
