Canada OKs imports of beef and pork from Brazil -Breaking

(Reuters) – Canada has granted permission to import beef and pork from Brazil. This was previously blocked due to health concerns.
Tweeted Tereza Cristina Dias, Brazilian Agriculture Minister: “We’re in Ottawa. We just left Canada Ministry of Agriculture.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency stated that it approved the import of Brazil’s raw and cooked poultry, pork, and pH-matured beef last Friday when Reuters was asked.
Dias visited Canada to meet with fertilizer suppliers and potash companies. Dias said that Brazilian meatpackers would now be able export their products to over 200 countries, as was her intention when she assumed the ministry three years ago.
Brazilian pork and poultry lobby ABPA appreciated the announcement. But, Santa Catarina was the only place where pork can be legally purchased. The Southern Brazilian state of Brazil is not immune to foot-and-mouth diseases.
According to ABPA Santa Catarina account for more than half of Brazil’s pork imports.
Canada and Brazil continue to negotiate over other areas that are no longer affected by the disease.
