American Express files NFTs-based and metaverse patent applications

This is the second largest payment processor in the world. American Express The company (NYSE:) is now joining JP Morgan (NYSE:) and Visa (NYSE:) in exploring Web3 uses of its IP, where major banks had resisted. It has submitted seven trademark applications related to virtual services, and the iconic Centurion emblem.

U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) licensed trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis tweeted on Tuesday about the American Express’ NFT and metaverse trade applications.

These seven trademarks are serial numbers 97302867, 97302817 and 97302865. They also include two logos for American Express, one for AMEX and one for Centurion. The Centurion logo is included, as well as Membership Rewards and the Shop Small initiative.

These trademarks can also be used to promote the use of metaverse cards and NFTs.

According to a USPTO filing, AmEx may be considering offering ATM services and card payment services as well as fraud detection services to metaverse customers.

The company also spoke of a digital wallet program for customers. This software allows the company to offer rewards and perform transactions electronically in other virtual worlds.

An AmEx spokesperson confirmed that “AmEx is always monitoring emerging technologies to see how they could benefit our customers, and the metaverse is a space we’re following.”

American Express launched its NFT efforts last summer, offering cardholders an exclusive run of 14 digital collectibles that featured SZA as music.

JP Morgan opened a new lounge on the Metaverse Platform Decentraland, while the NYSE filed trademark applications for metaverse-related marks.
