(Reuters] – Chris Cuomo was a former CNN primetime host and filed a request of arbitration for $125 million to recover damages from wrongful termination.
After an investigation into Cuomo’s efforts to assist his brother Andrew Cuomo (ex-Gov. of New York), who was accused of sexual harassment, the network fired Cuomo.
Chris Cuomo claims that he shared his confidant role with CNN and that there was no reason for CNN to suspect that this had violated their policies. He claimed former CNN chief Jeff Zucker, and former marketing chief Allison Gollust provided guidance to the governor.
In November, Cuomo provided assistance to his brother. The New York State Attorney General published materials to support its investigation into Andrew Cuomo.
In the complaint, Cuomo claims that CNN’s law firm hired by him to investigate Cuomo’s brother’s advice and subsequent sexual misconduct allegations in a Dec.1 letter failed to provide Cuomo with an opportunity for explanation or to respond to these women’s accusations, which he alleges are false.
Chris Cuomo’s attorneys also claim that CNN would bend to its rules when it would be beneficial. This is based on the fact that CNN removed its ban against Chris Cuomo interviewing him brother in the beginning of 2020. “To exploit the Cuomo familial relationship for its own purposes.”
Bryan Freedman (an attorney for Cuomo) said that network standards had been altered in an intentional decision to increase ratings. Chris became the victim after those practices were exposed.
Representatives of CNN parent, AT&T (NYSE:)’s WarnerMedia, declined comment.
Risa Heller (a spokeswoman of Zucker and Gollust) previously stated that Jeff “was never aware” of all Chris Cuomo’s actions for her brother. That is why Chris was fired. According to her, neither Zucker nor Gollust offered any advice to former governor. They both quit the network following failure to declare a consensual partnership.
